Everyday Rants!

In my everyday hassles to and from work, I’ve observed numerous wrongdoings by some people. Although I never planned to be specific of what I observe, but rather I observe generally. I’ll single out the acts society generally considers wrong and illegal. Why do I do this? Well, my sole purpose is to learn from my observations, and maybe, advocate against it. To put in context, I’m talking about acts of misconduct i.e, spitting, cursing, littering on public as well as transgressions. Why can’t people follow simple rules? Perhaps, they can’t stand it, so they chose not to abide by it or more commonly, lack of discipline and ignorance.

I’m a very observant person to be honest. Accumulation of observations paint a picture on my head, a picture which depicts the disobedience and stubbornness of some. You may think that we have no hope after all, no. It’s not as bad as you think, there’s a silver lining. Although we are aware that wrongfulness is in abundance, we can always change for the better future, couple it with proper guidance, then we’re on the right track towards change. We should start with ourselves, have the initiative of intolerance for disobedience and ignorance.

I’ll be sharing my observations here.

Preview:

My office work is not physically demanding as I’m a white collar employee with occasional site visits. I sit on the office for hours, stressing only my head and lower back. As a consequence, I became concerned on my well-being. I’m concerned on the effects of prolonged sitting on my health so I decided to put on some exercise on my body. I considered walking home, and walk I did.

Most of my observations occur during these walks.

Rants:

1. Motorcycles driving on sidewalk.

Apparently for some motorcycle drivers, sidewalks are for them. They can also shift lane to the road if they seem fit in a whim. Sounds ridiculous right? Some drivers don’t give a rat’s a** about pedestrians. For them, their convenience is priority and pedestrians don’t matter. This is illegal. I don’t know whether they’re ignorant of the law or they just don’t care. Nevertheless, they should be apprehended and penalized. “Sidewalks are for people and roads are for vehicles”. Safe passage of pedestrians are priority.

2. Terminals on roads and sidewalk.

A common site for commuters, most major intersections harbor these terminals. I don’t know whether the authorities intentionally turns a blind eye on them, because clearly these should be regulated. Perhaps someone from them benefits from their operations. I hope I’m wrong but nevertheless, I want them relocated at a place suitable for these operations.

Again, I’ll reiterate; “Sidewalks are for people and roads are for vehicles”. Clearly, they are an issue for law abiding pedestrians and may even cause safety issues as they will be forced to walk on the streets. Safe passage of pedestrians are priority.

I hope House Bill 504, also known as the Sidewalks and Public Roads Use Act, passes into law.

3. Pedestrians crossing on a red light.

This scenario is a recurring one that must be condemned. This is obviously unsafe and will cause accidents. You can die as well. You don’t want that, do you? Be patient and be on the safe side. Wait for the green light and check the road if it’s clear or not, then cross. You’ll always arrive at your destination one way or another, so don’t hurry.

4. Vendors on sidewalk.

I’ll repeat, “Sidewalks are for people“. Anything more than that is illegal. You’ll see this everywhere except at posh places. They will justify their wrongdoings by saying “naghahanapbuhay lang po kami“. Don’t show sympathy because if you do, you will condone illegal acts. Be intolerant and advocate against this. They should be on retail shops, not sidewalks.

5. Vehicles stopping on pedestrian lane.

I’ll never understand the logic behind stopping on a pedestrian lane. I hope someone enlighten me on this? Thanks. Why can’t some people follow simple and obvious rules? Is it fair that pedestrians would be the one to adjust by crossing around the vehicle due to transgressions of drivers? It’s not fair! What is fair is that pedestrians should cross over the hood of the car, stepping on it. Kidding aside. Your convenience shouldn’t be priority, everyone’s convenience does. Know your boundaries given the circumstances. Be smart. Never stop on a pedestrian crossing!

6. Littering.

Why do people even do this? Can’t they just wait until they saw a trash bin somewhere? Apparently, they are so inconvenienced by holding their trash so they just throw it away. They don’t give a rat’s a** if their trash clog the drain, or set an example for other people to do the same.

Let us be mindful of our surroundings since it’s the place we live in. We don’t want our homes littered with trash, right? So why can’t we do the same with our surroundings? Basically, it’s the extension of our home. Let us all have a sense of shared destiny, a sense which tells us that everything we do will have consequences on other people. If we care, everyone will be empathetic and that’s all that matters.

Recap:

Lack of discipline and ignorance is clearly the main cause. If wrongdoers realized their ignorance, then great! If some don’t then I hope those who abide by the rules take an active role in our society by not tolerating people who do such acts.

I’ll be updating this every now and then.
